 How we do it

Fully custom and sustainable

At Keener & Schultz each piece we create has a story. Much of that story is yours to write. You can share with us in the design process what type of piece you are looking for to fill the need. Features, wood choices and style is up to you. We just listen to what you are looking for and bring that vision to reality.

Locally Sourced Timber

Over 75% of lumber we use is sourced from within an hour of our shop. We gather trees and logs that are storm damaged, dead or dying, or being removed and otherwise scrapped. At our shop we process those logs into functional boards that will be incorporated into your special piece. It is quite satisfying to see a family tree that would be trashed when its at the end of its life cycle then turned into heirloom pieces that each family member can cherish for another century or more.

Managing the Moisture Content

Wood has a living element to it and that moisture content must be managed properly to avoid splitting, warping and cracking. After lumber is cut and stacked to allow that natural process to begin we then move into our dehumidification kiln to remove the excess moisture at a controlled rate which can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months. Once dried to 7-9% moisture left we can then move to our shop awaiting the fabrication process.

Handmade One Piece at a Time

We design all of our furniture with quality, function, and timeless beauty in mind. Although our designs transition from the classic to the contemporary, they all provide functional living captured in beauty. No longer are you confined to choose a standard bedroom suite or dining room suite. The days of piecing together your dream room with pieces that look “close” to your other items are long gone. We absolutely enjoy creating unique and customized pieces to fit your needs.

Lifetime guarantee

Our guarantee is very simple. We guarantee our products against defects in workmanship for the life of the piece. Even if it’s passed on to family members we will guarantee our work.
